Distributor & Flow Control...
Introduction
Liquid refrigerant passing through the TEV undergoes flashes, resulting in two-phase flow (liquid and gas) at the valve outlet.
Due to the difference in % by weight and % by volume between liquid and air, and different velocities both medium travel the circuit will not receive equal amount of refrigerant.
The Problem
The lower circuits of the evaporator will receive the most liquid, causing possible TEV hunting and flood back problem. While the upper circuit will starved, reducing effective evaporator surface.
The refrigerant capacity is decreased, the liquid may accompanied by suction, which results in serious impact on the performance and reliability of the refrigeration system.
The Solution
Mix the liquid and vapour portions of the refrigerant flow, and maintain a homogeneous two-phase mixture until equal portion of the flow are divided into each evaporator circuit.
Application
To evenly distribute refrigerant flow from TEV into each circuit of a multi-circuit evaporation coil.
Types of Liquid Distributors:
There are 2 basic types of distributors each has their own advantages. Engineers can choose which deemed best-suited their application.
1) Venturi Type
Low pressure type comes with machined, contoured throat on the approach side with diverging circuit holes beyond the smallest section of the throat.
Pressure drop is less than orifice type distributor as there is no separate nozzle.
The throat size is determined by the number and size of the circuit and cannot be altered.
2) Nozzle or Orifice Type
Comes with permanent or replaceable sharp-edge orifice to mix the two-phase liquid before entering coil circuit passageway.
One body type can be use for different refrigerant , load and also different number of circuit sizes by changing the nozzles with different orifice sizes.
