We talked about corrosion on metal roof and fasteners. Luckily we have a solution to the culprit.
In this article we will reveal the solution.
Introducing Fiable Anti Corrosion Coating
What are the corrosion resistance requirements fasteners? Interested readers can refer to Australian standard AS3566.2 which lays out a very detailed and comprehensive guideline.
However, take note the standards covers only SELF-DRILLING SCREWS and for BUILDINGS AND CONSTRUCTIONS INDUSTRIES only. So one may ask why is so and how about corrosion resistance for general screws and general usage? We will share more in coming articles.
In this article we will focus on Fiable Anti Corrosion Class and their respective performance under AS3566.2 Accelerated Testing Parameters:
Fiable Anti Corrosion Coating Technology
Image below illustrate a cross section of a carbon steel fasteners and layers of coating structure:
The middle part shows carbon steel which is the fasteners material.
First layer complies of Zinc adhere to steel surface by electroplating technology. The coating thickness on this layer is about 3-5μm.
The base coat provides a fundamental layer of protection for the steel surface to prevent immediate oxidation once steel surface comes in contact with air and water.
Next layer is a aluminum-alloy rich proprietary coating. Adhere to the base coat with dip-spin method, this 2-layer chemically stable concoction provides a both acid and alkaline resistant properties to the coating.
The coating thickness of this layer is about 14-25μm, plays the most crucial part in corrosion resistant performance of an anti-rust screws.
Lastly the outer layer of the coating is further protected with an anti-oxidant sealant. The sealant prevent oxidation of the coating layer and thus preserved the silver-grey metallic finished of the coating.
